A common fear of the elderly is Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Unfortunately, this fear is often grounded in reality: according to a recent study by the National Institute on Aging, more than half of people 80 years or older have some form of cognitive impairment. However, there are steps you can take now that will make it less likely that you'll develop these conditions later in life. The best way to reduce your risk is to maintain an active lifestyle; studies show that regular physical activity lowers the risk for developing dementia by up to 40%. Maintaining social connections and having an intellectually stimulating environment also help with reducing your odds as well!
